Bird and Wallace Set for Hong Kong International Bowls Classic

Ottawa, ON. | Nov. 2nd, 2016

As the 2016 bowls season winds down, Pat Bird of Calgary, will team up with fellow Albertan Alf Wallace of Sherwood Park to compete in the prestigious invitational Hong Kong International Bowls Classic.

Bird and Wallace are no strangers to tough competition. After competing for Canada in 2015 at the Asia Pacific Championships, these two athletes are looking to improve their international record playing together. At the Asia Pacific Championships, Bird and Wallace joined forces in the triples and fours, and came away with a 6-8 record.

This international event will feature 12 overseas countries. When asked how they will stack up against top countries, Bird stated “the field includes top flight teams from all the major bowls nations, as well as some excellent local players who will be playing on their home greens. Both Wallace and I have played in Hong Kong in the past and we will be prepared and ready to compete.” Wallace was quick to agree with his pairs partner, stating “Bird and I have been preparing for this event and are looking forward to the challenge this classic international tournament presents.”

The tournament begins with the singles event first from November 5th - 6th and finishes with pairs from November 7th – 13th. Due to the size of the field, the tournament will be held at three different venues in Hong Kong.  They are: the Craigengower Cricket Club (CCC), the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC), and the Indian Recreation Club (IRC).
