In Memoriam

Shirley Lenarduzzi

It is with sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Shirley Lenarduzzi.  Shirley was involved in the development and administration of lawn bowls at many levels.  As a BCB Director on behalf of the Ontario Lawn Bowling Association from 2004 to 2008, Shirley represented the needs of Ontario bowlers to the national governing body.  In 2009, Shirley joined the Executive of Bowls Canada as Secretary and later transitioned to 2nd Vice-President in 2010.  Shirley was involved in many national committees during her tenure with Bowls Canada including National Team Co-Chair from 2009 to 2012, Long-term Athlete Development Committee from 2009 to 2011 and the National Coaching Committee from 2010 to 2011.  Shirley was instrumental in revising the Bowls Canada by-laws when the organization transitioned to the new Not-For-Profit Act in 2012.  She was a dedicated coach and played an instrumental role in the development and delivery of the Bowls National Coaching Certification Program.  We extend sincere condolences to Shirley’s family and friends.

 

Richard Menear

It was with great sadness that the Bowls Canada community learned of the death of Richard Menear on February 17, 2019.  As part of a family tradition, he embraced the sport of lawn bowling, especially at the Westmount Lawn Bowling Club. He was an enthusiastic member who not only enjoyed playing and coaching but dedicated himself to being the greenskeeper, believing that time and energy spent on the greens would encourage many more to enjoy the sport. He also served as the President of the Club for several years and established partnerships with the city of Westmount to hold special events for its employees with club members. He especially enjoyed playing with his teammates, and he and the members of the team were successful not only in provincial play but also nationally. One proud moment was when he and Irene won the gold medal in the 2010 National Mixed Pairs Championship in White Rocks, B.C.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at the Montreal General Hospital or the CHSLD’s Father Dowd Residential Centre, 6565 Hudson Montreal.  We extend our condolences to the Richard’s wife Irene and all his family and friends.

Henry Lang

It was with heavy hearts that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of Henry Lang on Jan 12, 2019. He was passionate about bowls and was a dedicated supporter of Bowls Canada and the development of Junior bowls Of particular note was the generous support provided by Henry Lang and Irene Forster to the Canadian Junior Championships and Forster Lang Pairs competition.  We extend our sincere condolences to Henry’s family and friends.   

Elaine Chauvin

It is with great sadness that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of Elaine Chauvin. Elaine was president of Bowls Canada Boulingrin from 2001-2003 and was also a past president of the Beaconsfield Lawn Bowling Club in Quebec. Our condolences go out to Elaine’s family.

Lloyd Woods

It is with great sadness that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of Lloyd Woods on Oct 15th 2018. Lloyd authored our Bowling Green Maintenance and Management book and was a long time contributor to bowls in Canada. Our condolences to Lloyd's family.

Melissa Ranger

It is with heavy hearts that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of Melissa Ranger (1981-2018). A regular competitor on the provincial and national scene in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, Melissa was also a member of Canada’s national team.  Along with Anita Nivala, Shirley Fitzpatrick-Wong and Andrea Weigand, Melissa won a silver medal in women’s fours at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England.  Bowls Canada extends sincere condolences to Melissa’s family and friends.

Jeff Mullherin

It is with heavy hearts that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the tragic passing of New Brunswick bowler Jeff Mulherin on May 20, 2017 in a cycling accident.  A former Team Canada representative, Jeff was a regular competitor at national championships and a dedicated supporter of bowls throughout the Maritimes. Together with Pat Beggs and Elden McLaughlin, Jeff won the inaugural Men’s Triples Championships in 2013.  Jeff also was a member of the 2008 and 2010 Senior Triples Championship winning teams.


Our condolences go out to Jeff’s wife Sheila and the rest of his family.

Gordon Law

It is with great sadness that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin Community learned of the passing of Gordon Law.  Gordon dedicated much of his time to the sport.  Gordon sat on the Bowls Canada Board as a Director from 1986-89 and then became the Treasurer, as well as Chairman of the Finance Committee from 1989-2003.  Our condolences go to Gordon’s wife Donna and the rest of his family.

John (Jack) Robar

It is with great sadness that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of John (Jack) Robar on October 7th, 2016. Jack had a long time presence on the National scene.  He played in 11 National Championships between 2009 and 2016.  Jack won the Men’s Senior Triples Championships in 2011, 2014 and 2015.  Our condolences go out to Jack’s family members.

ONeil_Bob

Bob O’Neil

It is with great sadness that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of Bob O’Neil on November 16, 2014.  Bob dedicated much of his time to the sport and was the Head Umpire for the Ontario Lawn Bowls Association.  He loved bowls and contributed many years as a member of the executive for the OLBA.  Our condolences go to Bob’s wife Pamela and the rest of his family.

Joe Dorsch

It is with great sadness that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of Joe Dorsch on October 1st, 2014.  Joe was a member of the first team representing Canada at the World Championship and won three Canadian Gold Medals during his bowls career.  Our condolences go to Joe’s wife Anne and the rest of his family.

Jack M. Fine

The lawn bowls community lost a great supporter on August 27th, 2014.  Jack M Fine, owner and proprietor of Bowling Sales of Canada passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family.  Jack was a dedicated supporter of community bowls and was the founder of the Drakes Pride Club Membership Contest.  It was the norm for Jack to generously support those in need, whether a young junior bowler or a local event.  He will be greatly missed. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thestar/obituary.aspx?pid=172284951#sthash.PblYD38U.dpuf

Bruno Lenarduzzi

It is with great sadness that the Bowls Canada Boulingrin community learned of the passing of Bruno Lenarduzzi on June 27, 2013.  Bruno was a Life Member and long time volunteer of BCB.  Our condolences go out to Bruno’s wife Shirley and his surviving family members.
