COVID-19 Greens Resource Kit Available to Clubs Across Canada

Ottawa, ON | April 24, 2020

Bowls Canada has released a COVID-19 Resource Kit available to all lawn bowling clubs across Canada. The COVID-19 pandemic is a serious and unprecedented situation, but we are counting on an eventual return to the greens. However, if the greens are not maintained to a minimum standard of care, they could fall into a state of disrepair that would be too costly to reasonably fix. For this reason, this resource kit offers clubs tools to maintain a minimum standard of care for their greens in a safe and responsible manner.  For clubs that are unable to access their greens, the resource kit contains tools to help convince key decision makers in each community to allow access to their facilities and ensure the minimum standards of care are being met while respecting the local physical distancing regulations.

The resource kit includes:

  • National greens care position statement
  • National greens maintenance plan
  • Local lobbying plan for clubs
  • Template letter requesting to maintain the greens during the pandemic

“Despite the current pandemic, greens will still need some type of maintenance to keep from falling into disrepair” says Jake Schuknecht, Bowls Development Manager. “This greens resource kit is intended to help clubs across Canada gain access to their greens and maintain them to a minimum standard of care during this pandemic. As long as greenskeepers can stay safe and obey physical distancing rules, the resources in the lobbying kit should lay the groundwork for how to care for your greens during these troubling times.”

The resource kit is available now and can be accessed by visiting our COVID-19 page. The steps required to obtain access to facilities, the minimum standards of care for the greens, as well as the necessary precautions required on site to prevent infection and the spread of COVID-19 are outlined in this kit.
