West Vancouver, British Columbia | September 2nd, 2016
The West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club, located on the picturesque Vancouver North Shore in West Vancouver British Columbia, will host the 2016 Canadian Singles Championships from September 6th-10th, 2016. Over fifty male and female bowlers from across the country will compete in this week-long competition for the right to represent Canada at the 2017 World Champion of Champions Tournament to be hosted in Queensland, Australia.
This year’s competition will be fierce due to the outstanding calibre of athletes entered in the event. 2015 women’s champion Harriette Pituley of Regina, Saskatchewan will be back to defend her title. Local British Columbia favourite, Mary Wright, is also back and hoping for a rematch against Pituley in this year’s gold medal game. On the men’s side, defending champion John Bjornson of Manitoba returns with the goal to repeat his 2015 success while Alberta’s Pat Bird, 2015 outdoor bronze and 2015 indoor silver medallist, is looking to topple Bjornson and upgrade his place on the podium. 2015 Asia Pacific Gold medallist and BC native Steven Santana will also be looking to book his return trip to the World Champion of Champions tournament where he represented Canada in 2012.
Spectators are welcome as play gets underway at 9:00 am local time on Tuesday September 6th. The West Vancouver Lawn Bowling Club is located at 650 20th Street just off Marine Drive in West Vancouver.
