BCB Expands Team with Two New Hires
Bowls Canada Boulingrin is pleased to announce the hiring of two new staff members! After the departure of Communications and Safe Sport Coordinator, Casey Donnelly, a hiring process began in early March. With multiple highly qualified and extremely talented candidates applying, BCB is excited to announce the hiring of Alec Deschamps and Samantha Burelle.
Name: Alec Deschamps
Position: Communications and Event Coordinator
Bio: Fresh out of his Sport Management Undergraduate at Brock University, Alec is eager to apply his 4 years of theoretical knowledge to help Bowls Canada achieve its mission and vision while representing our values. With limited experience in the sport industry, Alec is enthusiastic in learning and growing as not only a professional but as an individual.
As a full-time Communication and Event Coordinator, Alec will be responsible for creating content for the newsletter, player bios and social media. Alec will also be spearheading the creation of content for this year’s Commonwealth Games. In addition, Alec will assist in the planning and execution of various Bowls tournaments across the nation. As a French Canadian, Alec will be able to offer services in both official languages. Alec is immensely thankful for Bowls Canada, the Government of Canada and Sport Canada for providing him with an opportunity to grow and excel within the sport industry.
Name: Samantha (Sam) Burelle
Position: Safe Sport and EDI Coordinator
Bio: Sam is a graduate from Acadia University with a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and an expected graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University upon the completion of her master’s thesis titled “Experiences and Perceptions of Psychological Readiness in Injured Student-Athletes When Returning to Sport: A Qualitative Approach”. In addition to her past academic pursuits, Sam will be continuing to study and research towards a PhD in Kinesiology come September at York University with a focus in Safe sport, sport culture, and culture of risk.
Sam will be working full-time as the Safe Sport and EDI Coordinator for the summer (until the end of August) at the BCB office and then transition to part-time remote out of Toronto during the school year. While in this position, she will be responsible for the Belonging in Bowls program, Just Roll with It and ParaBowls initiatives, Safe Sport initiatives and education, and Gender Equity and EDI Initiatives. Sam would like to thank the Government of Canada, Sport Canada, and Canada Summer Jobs to help fund the position and provide her with the opportunity to join the BCB community.
She is very excited to share her passion for Safe Sport, positive sport environment/sport cultures, and EDI to all BCB stakeholders.
Fun Fact in Common for both Alec & Sam: We are both lactose intolerant, but we welcome any and all dairy related jokes!
