Canada’s Vince Mai off to a great start at 2014 World Cup

This singles tournament features competitors from around the world and is being played on the indoor greens of the Warilla Bowls and Recreation Club in New South Wales, Australia.
With a bye in the first round, Mai started play in Round two against Isle of Man’s Clive McGreal. Mai defeated McGreal in straight sets:10-6 and 9-4. Playing in Section 1 of the Men’s competition, Day two will see Mai meet New Zealand’s Shannon McIllroy and Guernsey’s Ian Merrie.
Canada’s Kelly McKerihen opened the tournament with two losses. Playing in Section 2 of the Women’s competition, McKerihen was defeated by Singapore’s Shermeen Lim in straight sets:4-12 and 1-9. Round 2 saw McKerihen take on Malaysia’s Siti Zalina Ahmad. Losing the first set 10-6, McKerihen battled back to take the second set 7-12. Unfortunately Ahmad was able to recapture her momentum and won the tie-breaker with a score of 2-1. Day two of play will see McKerihen take on Guernsey’s Alison Mer and New Zealand’s Val Smith.
