Canadians Compete In Blue Diamond Open Pairs

Gold Coast, Queensland | June 7th, 2016

Pat Bird (Calgary, AB) and Steven Santana (North Vancouver, BC)  of Canada are ready to roll at the prestigious $12,000 Blue Diamond Pairs tournament from June 8th – 9th, 2016.  This is the second year in a row that Broadbeach Bowls Club in Queensland has hosted this event as a lead up to the world’s biggest bowls festival — the $250,000 Australian Open.

The two-day Blue Diamond Pairs tournament is a true open event and will feature some of the biggest names in international bowls.  In addition to Bird and Santana, Canada’s Ryan Bester (Hanover, ON)and Kelly McKerihen (Toronto, ON) will also be playing.  Bester will be paired with Gary Lawson, a former New Zealand representative and World Champion, and McKerihen has paired with New Zealand Blackjack Ali Forsyth who was just named to the New Zealand’s World Bowl’s men’s team.

The top eleven pairs will be determined based on six rounds of play using win points, then margins, then ends won, then percentages.  With the over $12,000 of prize money on the line, this tournament is going to be an exciting event.
