Gold Medal for Canadian Men at China Open

The Canadian Men’s Bowls Team of Michel Larue, Pat Bird, Jesse Caldwell & Alex LeBlanc wrapped up the 5th China Lawn Bowls Open Championship 2014with a gold medal. Undefeated throughout the tournament, the men overcame the Netherlands in the semi-final and went on to clench the gold medal with a win over Singapore in the final.
With a final record of 3-4, the women’s team of Mary Ann Beath, Mary Wright, Pricilla Westlake & Jaymee Sidel did not advance to the medal round.
Taking place in Fengqiu County of Xinxiang city, Henan Province, over 200 players of 44 teams from 15 countries and regions participated in the event. Athletes came from all over the world including Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States, Zambia and host China.
The 5th China Lawn Bowls Open Championship 2014 opened in Fengqiu County of Xinxiang city, Henan Province, with the participation of over 200 players of 44 teams from 15 countries and regions, including Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, the United States, Zambia and host China.
It was the first time that the invitational tournament was held outside south China’s cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
The Men’s Team of Michel Larue, Pat Bird, Jesse Caldwell & Alex LeBlanc beat Japan 15-7. The Women’s team of Mary Ann Beath, Mary Wright, Pricilla Westlake & Jaymee Sidel lost to the China National Team 13-7.
These were the last games for the day as the opening ceremonies were taking place. They actually ran long with play being suspended on the last games due to lack of light. Men are up two shots on China National Team with 4 ends to play . Will play off after last game tomorrow. Women two shots up on USA with two ends to play, after last game tomorrow.
