Pat Bird and Michel Larue Finish Strongly at Hong Kong Classic

Hong Kong | November 16, 2014 Bird (Calgary, AB) and Michel Larue (Blainville, QC) have put Canada on the map at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic this past week.  Both men played extremely well against world class competition.

Bird and Larue started competition playing singles.  After 22 matches, both men finished with matching 13-2-7 records putting them tied for 13th place.  Bird and Larue played well through the entire singles event and were less than ten points back from the leader.

At the completion of the singles event, the men’s pairs’ event started and Canada teamed up to take on the competition.  After playing so well and finishing strongly in the singles, the men were ready to combine their strengths and dominate the pairs’ competition.  In the end, the pair finished with a record of 7-0-4 to put them fifth in their group and seventh overall in the field of 24 teams.

While the men didn’t advance to the medal rounds, they fought hard and represented Canada well; “It is the end of the classic for us.  We were so close.  Thanks to HKLBA, CCC, IRC and HKFC for this incredible experience of bowls” said Michel Larue.  Every international team was hosted by a different local bowls club with Canada being hosted by the Craigengower Cricket Club.  Bowls Canada along with Bird and Larue, thank them for their

generous hospitality.
