Two World Junior Bowls events to be contested in Etobicoke

May 20, 2014

Canadian Under 25 lawn bowlers will have two international events to qualify for this year at the championships in Etobicoke, Ontario in August.

Broadbeach Bowls Club, Gold Coast, Australia has been awarded the eagerly anticipated return of the World Junior Championships for the next five years.

These annual outdoor championships will feature Men’s and Women’s Singles and Mixed Pairs events. The 2014 World Junior Championships will be held in November 2014 and the 2015 World Junior Championships will follow shortly thereafter in March 2015.

Due to the short separation of dates, spots at both the 2014 and 2015 events will be up for grabs in Etobicoke.

A 2014 World Junior Championship Qualifier event will run concurrently with the 2014 Canadian Junior Championships from August 4-7, 2014. The winners of this 2014 Qualifier event will go as Canada’s representatives to the 2014 World Junior Championships scheduled for November 10-16, 2014 (dates subject to final entry level details).

The winners of the 2014 Canadian Under 25 Championships held from August 9-11, 2014 will be nominated as a Canadian entry to the 2015 World Junior Championships to be held in March 2015 (tentative dates March 7-15, 2015).

The Canadian winners will also be paired together to play in the Mixed Pair event at the respective World Junior Championship.

In order to comply with the age eligibility of the World Junior Championships Conditions of Play, the entrants for both the 2014 Qualifier and the 2014 Canadian U25 Championships must have reached their 18th birthday by the start of the Canadian event but must not reach their 25th birthday by the start of the corresponding World Junior Championship event.
