The 2016 Senior Triples Bowls Championships came to an exciting end after six days of competition at the Wanderers Lawn Bowling Club and Dartmouth Lawn Bowling Club in Nova Scotia.  Ten teams from across the country played for the chance to take home the hardware.  After nine sessions of round robin play, the top two ranked teams advanced to the gold medal game and the third and fourth ranked teams advanced to the bronze medal match.

The men’s gold medal game featured Ontario-East and Alberta.  While Ontario-East’s Vince Donohoe, Glen Patton and Archie Marshall went undefeated throughout round robin play, it was Alberta’s Lyall Adams Ken Olsvik and Stan Nelson (pictured left) who came out on top for the gold medal.  With a final score of 13-10, these two teams both displayed winning form and exemplary bowls.

The women’s gold medal game also featured a team that went undefeated throughout round robin play.  However, this time the perfect streak was maintained and BC’s Mary Wright, Annie Mathie and Anne VanBastelaere (pictured right) claimed gold with their decisive win over Ontario-East’s Laila Hassan, Gloria Cheung and Zee Jones in a final score of 13-3.

In men’s bronze medal play Ontario-West’s Chuck Townsend, Everett Zwiers and Bill Baxter defeated Manitoba’s Bob Van Walleghem, Garry O’Connell and Brian Kullman in a final score of 19-12. On the women’s side Manitoba’s Elaine Jones, Betty Van Walleghem and Sandra Mulholland won bronze over Saskatchewan’s Jean Roney, Carolyn Jones and Eileen McLelland.
