Bowls Canada to release full suite of safe sport policy templates

Ottawa (ON)

Every sport organization and participant plays a role in ensuring safe sport. We all deserve to participate in sport environments that are accessible, inclusive, safe, and free from all forms of Maltreatment by others. For this reason, the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) was developed and must be followed by any individual who works or participates within Canada’s national sports system.

It’s imperative that the national, provincial, and club levels set the same standards and take the same approach to safe sport, but the alignment of existing policies with the UCCMS or the creation of new ones can be a daunting task for clubs. This is why Bowls Canada is releasing a full suite of policy templates that are already aligned with the UCCMS, and can be used at the club level. The policy suite will include policies such as a Code of Conduct, Discipline and Complaints, and more. Recognizing that policies are often written using complex and legal terminology, Bowls Canada will also be releasing a series of tools that will help clubs implement and communicate these policies with their members and participants.

The implementation of this policy suite will be integrated with the Belonging in Bowls campaign, which aims to create safe, welcoming and inclusive lawn bowling club environments where people want to stay and belong. This campaign will reward clubs with marketing resources as they make their way through the completion of each level. Bowls Canada’s suite of policy templates will enable clubs to complete these levels, ensure a safe club environment, and save time and money on policy development.

Stay tuned for the release of the Safe Sport Policy Suite.
