Ottawa, Ontario | March 1st, 2016

Darryl Fitzgerald (Waterloo, Ontario) has been named the 2016 World Junior Championships coach.  Fitzgerald will be providing his coaching expertise and management support for the team of five Canadian athletes prior to and during the World Junior Championships in Queensland, Australia.

The competition will take place from April 9th- 15th, 2016 at the Broadbeach Bowls Club.  Not only is Broadbeach the site of the 2018 Commonwealth Games, but it is also the home away from home for Canada’s Ryan Bester – 2015 Asia Pacific Championship gold medalist and 2014 Commonwealth Games silver medalist.

“This is a huge opportunity and I am extremely excited to be helping each athlete achieve their goals for this event”, said Fitzgerald.  Working with youth bowlers has been Fitzgerald’s main focus since he started his coaching career.  He is currently an active coach in the bowls National Coaching Certification Program.

“I am looking forward to working with each of the five athletes going down to Australia, both individually and as a team.  This event will be a major milestone for these young bowlers to showcase their skill and potential.  My job is to help them reach that potential and make the most of this opportunity.” stated Fitzgerald.
