Canada2018 National Championships Venues Announced
Ottawa, Ontario | December 20th, 2017
Bowls Canada is excited to announce the venues for the 2018 National Championships.
St. James Lawn Bowling Club will be hosting the 2018 Canadian Youth Championships, from August 14th – 18th, 2018. After hosting a successful Outdoor Singles Championship in 2017, the city of Winnipeg is excited to host a championship once more. The co-chairs for the event are Clarice Fitzpatrick and Betty Van Wallegham. Their experience traveling to many national championships will be a significant asset for the 2018 event. The St. James LBC held the Junior and Under 25 Championships in 2008 and will be eager to showcase their club once more. With one sand-based green and one earth-based green, participants will be in for a challenge at St. James LBC.
The Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships will be hosted at the Regina Lawn Bowling Club in beautiful Regina, Saskatchewan from August 22nd – 29th, 2018. The revamped championships will feature Pairs and Fours from August 22nd – 26th, followed by Singles from the 26th – 29th. Regina is no stranger to hosting revamped events: they were the first club to host the Singles Championships in 2013 when the Singles became a separate event and will be the first club to host the revamped Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships where Singles will take place immediately after the Pairs and Fours. Keith Roney will be teaming up with Nick Jones to co-chair this event.
Calgary Lawn Bowling Club will host the Canadian Senior Triples Championships from September 10th – 15th, 2018 in Calgary, Alberta. This will be the first national event held at their new location and the club members are excited to showcase their greens and clubhouse. While this will be the first event at this location, Calgary LBC is no stranger to national events as they have hosted the Mixed Pairs and co-hosted the Senior Triples in the past. Their move in 2016 brought in a new group of bowlers who are excited to be part of a national event. The chair for this event is Heather Mackie.
The Canadian Mixed Pairs Championships will be held at the Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club from September 11th – 15th, 2018. This beautiful facility features an outdoor green as well as three indoor rinks and two indoor short mats. Qualicum Beach LBC has successfully hosted several provincial championships in the past and is eager to bring a national championship to Qualicum Beach, British Columbia. Mick Banks is the chair of the event.
The Indoor Singles Championships will be played at the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club from October 29 – November 3, 2018. This world class facility is eager to host these championships once more, with the winners of this event advancing to compete in the 2019 World Cup. Serge Pannu will be the chair of this event.
