Canadian Championships Review
Ottawa, Ontario | November 12, 2014
Bowls Canada is conducting a comprehensive review of the Canadian Championships. The object is to conduct a full Championship review that will include a small debrief on all seven of the Canadian Championships (Singles, Junior & Under 25, “Majors”, Mixed Pairs, Senior Triples and the Indoor Singles).
Information will be gathered through athlete participant surveys, telephone interviews with provincial sport organizations, as well as final reports from the 2014 Canadian championship Host Organizing Committees. The review will take into account the Bowls Canada Strategic Review and examine the 2012 Long Term Athlete Development Competition Review.
The primary objective is to identify the direction and format of the Canadian Championships and clarify what sustainable model will best serve the needs of bowls in Canada. Concerns being addressed in the review include establishing clear standards of quality for facilities including greens, lack of venues coming forward to host events, resources and budget for the Championships, communication processes between Host Organizing Committees, Bowls Canada and Media and potential rebranding.
Members will have access to a final report at the conclusion of the review as well as an updated Technical Package and a clarification of the roles and responsibilities of individuals in the Championship planning process.
