Canadians Ready for the 2019 World Junior Championships

Ottawa (ON) | November 29, 2019

Emma Boyd (Delta, BC) and Brandon Watson (Regina, SK) are ready to compete at the 2019 World Junior Championships in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, U.K. The event will take place from December 3rd to 6th, 2019 and will feature athletes from over 12 countries competing in men’s and women’s singles as well as mixed pairs.

Boyd and Watson earned the right to represent Canada when they won the 2019 Canadian Youth Championship – Under 25 divisions earlier this summer. Boyd has spent several months over the past year competing in Australia, while Watson has been making a name for himself in North America by competing in the US Open as well as the 2019 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships in men’s pairs.
Watson and Boyd will be supported by coaches Derek Dillon (Calgary, AB) and Mary Wright (Surrey, BC). Both Dillon and Wright acted as support staff for Team Canada at the Multi-Nations event in Australia in mid-November, where Canada came home with 3 medals. With Boyd on the Senior Squad, and Watson on the Development Squad, this event serves an excellent development opportunity for both bowlers and coaches alike.

Play begins on December 2nd at 5:30pm local time, where Boyd and Watson will take on Jason Banks (Scotland) & Shira Eshel (Israel) in mixed pairs.
