Champion of Champions Set to Begin
Canada’s Jordan Kos (Regina, SK) and Pat Bird (Calgary, AB) are ready to don the red and white at the World Bowls Champion of Champions event in Gold Coast, Australia.
From September 11 – 16, the national Singles champions of 31 different countries will be competing for the title in men’s and women’s divisions. The format has changed dramatically this year: instead of playing two 7-end sets, participants will be competing in three 5-end sets over the duration of the event.
Kos, fresh off of competing at the World Championships in Pairs and Fours will be eager to improve upon her performance. In a group with the likes of Scotland and Malaysia, it won’t be easy to advance to the playoffs. However, Kos has multiple international events under her belt and will be looking to use her experience to prove why she deserves to advance to the playoffs. With 3 women’s sections, the top 2 from each section automatically advance, as well as the next 2 best participants across all sections.
Bird, who won his way to the event by winning the 2022 Canadian Singles Championship, just recently won the 2023 edition in Victoria, BC to earn his way to the 2024 Champion of Champions event as well. No stranger to international play, Bird will face the likes of Scotland and Norfolk Island in his 7-person section. With 4 sections, Bird will need to finish in the top 2 of his section in order to advance to the quarterfinals.

The 2023 World Bowls Champion of Champions will take place on the Gold Coast, Queensland from September 11-16. The event will be held at Club Robina. The World Bowls Champion of Champions are held annually, and feature men’s and women’s singles.
