Competition Heats Up at the 2018 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships

Regina, S.K. | August 25, 2018

Competition is over half-way through at the 2018 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships. Top players from across Canada have completed six rounds of fours and pairs at the Regina Lawn Bowling Club in Regina, Saskatchewan.

The first day of round robin featured three rounds in 31-degree weather. Despite a long and grueling day, the players persevered to see a much cooler second day, which was full of gale-force winds in the 6th round.

After 6 rounds, the women’s pairs are being dominated by Alberta as their “A” and “B” teams sit atop the leaderboard. The women’s fours has defending champions British Columbia B tied with Ontario B for first place. Saskatchewan A, Manitoba A, Alberta A, and Manitoba B are all one game back as well, making the fours a hotly contested affair.

On the men’s side, the pairs has a three way tie between Alberta, Saskatchewan A, and Nova Scotia A for first place. The next five teams are all tied as well, making it a very close race. In the fours, Ontario A is undefeated at the top, but is being pursued closely by Saskatchewan A.

Play will continue with the final three rounds of the round robin on August 25th, followed by playoffs and finals on August 26th.
