Don Caswell Hired as Interim High Performance Manager

Bowls Canada Boulingrin is excited to announce a new pilot project for high-performance management. As a result of a recent funding opportunity, BCB has hired Don Caswell to serve as an interim high performance manager to take the lead on high performance initiatives and preparation for the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, UK.
Caswell has a long history with bowls high performance programming having been involved in various roles since 2003. In addition to serving as the Chair of the High Performance Committee from 2013-2019, he has also played instrumental roles in preparing teams for international play including Manager of Canada’s 2014 Commonwealth Games Bowls team, Manager of Canada’s 2016 World Bowls team, and Manager of Canada’s Pre-Commonwealth Games tour in 2017 to name just a few. This experience allowed Caswell to hit the ground running when he started on December 9th, 2021.
“We are so pleased that we were able to convince Don to help us over the next few months,” said CEO Anna Mees. “Don’s previous high performance experience and familiarity with the current program makes him a natural fit for this short-term role. He knows exactly what our athletes will need in order to succeed on the greens in Birmingham”. While Caswell’s role concludes on June 30th, 2022, Bowls Canada is hopeful that this pilot project will pave the way for a more permanent position in the future for an up and coming sport professional.
“Having just stepped down from the Bowls Canada Board, this was a natural fit for me and I’m happy to be able to assist the organization in its time of need,” said Caswell. “I am looking forward to helping our athletes prepare for best ever performances in Birmingham and am especially excited to lay the groundwork for our first ever national para bowls squad”.
