High Performance National Team Training Camp

Ottawa, Ontario | May 9th, 2016

The Bowls Canada Boulingrin High Performance National Team training camp will be held at the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club in Vancouver, British Columbia from Thursday May 12th – Monday May 16th, 2016.  The training camp kicks off a very busy 12 months on the international calendar.

This year the training camp was opened up to the Youth Development Squad which was named back in August of 2015.  There will be four youth squad members in attendance at the camp.  This is an opportunity for these four athletes to gain experience, exposure and develop their own skills.  “It is exciting that we are able to have four members of the Youth Development Squad involved this year”, stated Macky Singh, BCB Performance Director.  “It will give the athletes an opportunity to interact with the Senior and Development Squad athletes, as well as, educate and immerse them in the High Performance environment”.

Athletes in attendance will be:

Lucas Caldwell (Ontario)

Jaymee Sidel (British Columbia)

Rob Law (Manitoba)

Baylee van Steijn (Ontario)

Nicole Leblanc (Ontario)

The camp itinerary is a busy one with both on green and off green activities.  With International competition set for New Zealand and Australia over the next two years the on green training will focus on the technical and tactical mechanics that are required for success on the faster greens found in the southern hemisphere.  “The athletes will have a chance to analyze the Men’s Pairs Gold Medal winning performance from 2015 Asia Pacific Championships with Steven Santana, as well as review with Pricilla Westlake her Singles semi-final match from 2016 World Cup.  Video analysis represents a great learning opportunity for everyone”, stated Don Caswell, Chair of the High Performance Committee.

For those interested in seeing what is involved in a training camp session, there will be an open session on Friday May 13th, 2016 at 4:30pm PST at Pacific Indoor Bowls Clubs.
