Play Concludes for Canadians at the 2019 Champion of Champions
Ottawa, Ontario | November 1st, 2019
Shirley Fitzpatrick-Wong (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Earl Luk (Richmond, British Columbia) have wrapped up play at the 2019 Champion of Champions event. After a week of competition at the Adelaide Bowling Club in Australia, both Fitzpatrick-Wong and Luk represented Canada well despite missing out on playoffs.
Fitzpatrick-Wong got off to a quick start in her 9-game sectional round robin with a win over Singapore. With the likes of Australia and England in her section, Fitzpatrick-Wong knew she’d face some difficult opponents. The competition did in fact prove to be fierce, with Fitzpatrick-Wong picking up two more wins the rest of the event, along with two narrow tiebreaker losses, to finish with a record of 3-6.
Luk’s first international competition proved to be a challenge. Luk kept his spirits high by securing at least one win on each day of play, except for his final day where he lost back-to-back games in tiebreakers. In a difficult 12-man section featuring the likes of Scotland, England, and New Zealand, Luk’s final record of 5-6 is nothing short of spectacular for his first international event.
Fitzpatrick-Wong and Luk earned the right to represent Canada and compete in Adelaide when they won the 2018 Canadian Outdoor Singles Championship titles last August in Regina, Saskatchewan. After a gruelling week of competing in extremely hot temperatures, Fitzpatrick-Wong and Luk can hold their heads high, having represented Canada to the best of their abilities on the world stage.
