The 2026 Canadian Outdoor Championship Season Comes to a Close

The 2026 Canadian outdoor championships season has officially concluded! The month of August brought athletes from across the country in 9 different provinces, competing in four national championship events. From para bowlers to youth and junior athletes to adult and senior competitors, the 2026 championships showcased bowlers of all ages and abilities, competing on the national stage.

The national championship season began in early August with the 2026 Canadian Para-Bowls Championships, held August 4–9 at the Brampton Lawn Bowling Club in Brampton, Ontario. The championship brought together para bowlers competing across a range of classifications, with athletes from across Canada taking to the green throughout the week. Louise McLean (ON) and director Carolyn LaRue-Campbell (ON), Tony Bakula (BC) and director Wendy Scorgie (BC), Sheila Grieve (BC) and director Barbara Schuster (BC), Jeff Cheah (ON), Dan Pyper (AB), Jack Smart (AB), Anne Hibberd (AB), Cory Galloway (AB) and Gord Travis (ON) each claimed gold in their respective classifications, while several additional athletes earned silver and bronze medals.

Next came the 2026 Canadian Youth & Junior Championships, held August 10–14 at the Hanover Lawn Bowling Club in Hanover, Ontario. The championship highlighted the next generation of Canadian bowlers, with athletes competing in U18 and U25 Men’s and Women’s singles as well as the Forster-Lang Mixed Pairs. Jake Masterson (ON) along with his sister, Bridget Masterson (ON) claimed the U25 Men’s and U25 Women’s singles titles, while Isaac Kerr (ON) and Rebecca Coon (ON) captured the U18 Boys’ and U18 Girls’ singles championships. Erik Galipeau (ON) and Gwyneth Chang (BC) were crowned Forster-Lang Mixed Pairs champions, and Dekker Ly received the Sportsmanship Award for his outstanding sportsmanship, positive attitude, and always showing support to his competitors.

The 2026 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships followed in North Vancouver, British Columbia, from August 16–23. The championship featured national competition in men’s and women’s pairs, fours and singles, bringing teams together from across the country for a full week of competition. Ontario captured the men’s pairs and fours titles, while British Columbia won the women’s pairs and Alberta took the women’s fours championship. In singles, Kody Olthof from Ontario claimed the men’s title and Jan Robinson from Alberta captured the women’s title. Team Ontario received the 2026 Cy English Award, while Team Alberta earned the 2026 Lady Alexander Award. The Spirit Award was presented to Sam Forrest (MB) and Norman Keung (BC) for always having a positive attitude and demonstrating great sportsmanship throughout the championships.

The outdoor championship season concluded with the 2026 Canadian Senior Championships, held August 25–29 at the Windsor Lawn Bowling Club in Windsor, Ontario. The event featured men’s and women’s triples competition, with teams competing through round-robin play before advancing to the finals. British Columbia-B, represented by Dennis Verge, Nick May and John Eyre, captured the men’s championship, while Manitoba’s Betty Van Wallegham, Brenda Frank and Barb Heinrichs won the women’s title. Ontario and British Columbia also earned additional podium finishes across the two disciplines.

Across all four championships, the 2026 outdoor season provided opportunities for athletes of different ages, classifications and experience levels to compete for national titles and represent their clubs and provinces on the national stage. The season also highlighted the dedication of coaches, managers, umpires, directors, host clubs and supporters who helped bring each championship to life. Thank you to all the volunteers behind the scenes. None of these championships could have been possible without your time, effort and generosity, which helped make each national event a success!

While the outdoor championship season has come to a close, national championship competition will continue this fall. The 2026 Canadian Indoor Singles Qualifier will take place at the Pacific Indoor Bowls Club in Vancouver, British Columbia, from October 19–24, 2026.
