Erik Galipeau and Baylee van Steijn Selected to Represent Canada at 2026 World Bowls Junior Indoor Championship
Bowls Canada Boulingrin (BCB) is pleased to announce that Erik Galipeau and Baylee van Steijn have once again been selected to don the maple leaf and represent Canada at the 2026 World Bowls Junior Indoor Championship, taking place at the Hong Kong Football Club in Hong Kong, China, from December 1–6, 2026.
The World Bowls Junior Indoor Championship brings together some of the top young bowlers from around the world for six days of international competition. Athletes will compete in men’s and women’s singles, as well as mixed pairs, providing an opportunity for the next generation of international bowls talent to test themselves on the world stage.
For Galipeau and van Steijn, the 2026 championship marks another opportunity to represent Canada internationally and build on an already impressive list of accomplishments.
Both athletes enjoyed strong performances throughout the 2026 Canadian championship season. Van Steijn captured silver in the U25 Women’s competition at the Canadian Youth & Junior Championships in Hanover, Ontario, while Galipeau teamed up with British Columbia’s Gwyneth Chang to capture gold in the Forster-Lang Mixed Pairs event.
Galipeau also added a Canadian title at the 2026 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships in North Vancouver, capturing gold in the Men’s Pairs alongside his father, Rob.
Both Galipeau and van Steijn bring considerable international experience to Hong Kong. They have previously represented Canada at the World Bowls Junior Indoor Championships and other major international competitions, giving them valuable experience competing against many of the world’s best bowlers.
“Erik and Baylee continue to demonstrate that they belong on the international stage,” said BCB National Team Head Coach Derek Dillon. “They have both gained valuable experience representing Canada and continue to develop as athletes and competitors. We are excited to see them represent Canada once again and take on the challenge in Hong Kong.”
BCB also extends its sincere thanks to all athletes who applied for the opportunity to represent Canada at this year’s championship. The continued interest and quality of athletes pursuing international opportunities is an encouraging reflection of the young talent developing across the Canadian bowls community.
With another season of national competition behind them and valuable international experience to draw upon, Galipeau and van Steijn will head to Hong Kong ready to compete, represent Canada with pride, and continue their development against the world’s top young bowlers.
The Canadian bowls community will be cheering them on as they take to the greens at the Hong Kong Football Club this December.
