Bhartu and Charlton Ready to Represent Canada
After waiting two long years, Hirendra Bhartu (BC) and Bobbi-Jean Charlton (BC) are ready to represent Canada on the international stage. After winning the 2019 Canadian Indoor Singles Championships, Bhartu and Charlton will be competing in the World Bowls Indoor Championships in Bristol, England from April 25-29, 2022.
The event will feature 64 players from 29 countries competing in men’s singles, women’s singles, and a mixed pairs championship. This new international event comes after the International Indoor Bowls Council (IIBC) affiliated to World Bowls, allowing two indoor bowling events to merge into one. Now hosted on a rotating schedule between Warilla in New South Wales, Australia, and Bristol, England in alternating years, players from across the globe can compete to see who deserves the crown of the World Indoor Championships.
In the Singles, Bhartu finds himself in Section 8 alongside Andrew Duncan (Ireland), Tom Schneiter (Switzerland) and Susil Don-Ramanayake (Sri Lanka). Charlton will be in Section 1 competing against Sandra Bailie (Ireland), Marietjie Van den Bergh (Namibia) and Maureen Caesar (Jamaica). Bhartu and Charlton will team up in the Mixed Pairs against Colleen Piketh and Jason Evans (South Africa), Carol Broomfield and Graham Cathcart (Spain) and Janice Pilling (Isle of Mann) and David Bolt (England) in Section 8.
Play begins on Monday, April 25, 2022.
