Bowls Canada Launches National Campaign to Kick Off the Bowls Season
Canadian bowls clubs have been hit hard by COVID-19, but a re-launch of the sport is on its way! Bowls Canada is releasing the first stage of a national campaign designed to grow the sport of bowls by attracting and retaining new participants.
At a time when Canadians have been isolated and restricted in their activity options throughout the winter, there has never been a better time to try bowls. Enter Belonging in Bowls, a national campaign with two primary objectives:
- Grow the sport by attracting participants from non-traditional markets, and
- Retain new participants by supporting clubs to expand the welcoming and inclusionary elements of their club culture.
The first key objective of Belonging in Bowls is supported by a marketing strategy designed to raise awareness of bowls as a fun, challenging and welcoming sport and to promote clubs as places where everyone can be included and belong.
The second key objective is backed by a series of resources designed to support clubs in the areas of Safe Sport implementation, effective club governance, accessibility, diverse and inclusive culture development, and effective marketing.
Clubs can attain an accreditation status by completing challenges within the program and earning meaningful rewards along the way. Through the national promotion of the Belonging in Bowls brand, Canadians will know that a lawn bowls club with Belonging in Bowls accreditation will meet a national standard of programming, inclusion and safety.
With restrictions still in place across the country, many clubs aren’t able to welcome bowlers yet this season. Luckily, clubs can get started on the campaign now and be ready to attract new members and participants to our great sport this summer once it is safe to do so.
To begin the Belonging in Bowls journey, all clubs will start in the Safe Sport Foundation and then proceed to different pillars based on readiness and need. Recognizing the need to relaunch the sport in communities across the country as soon as possible, Bowls Canada is releasing Belonging in Bowls in stages beginning with the Safe Sport Foundation.
Visit www.belonginginbowls.ca today to explore the Safe Sport Foundation catalogue and register for the program. Every club affiliated with their Provincial Association is eligible to participate. Stay tuned to the Bowls Canada website for updates on the release of the remaining pillars.
