Canadian Youth Champions Crowned

The 2018 Youth Championships have come to a close at the St. James Lawn Bowling Club in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

In the Forster-Lang Pairs, the team of Lucas Caldwell (ON) and Amy Spence (PEI) took the gold over Jordan Gailey (SK) and Gannen Stanyer (ON).

The Under 18 boy’s singles saw Erik Galipeau (ON) win a convincing 18-5 match over Auzzie Chambers (BC) to claim the gold medal. Jake Masterson (ON) took bronze over Liam Campbell (NS) with an 18-10 victory.

The Under 18 girl’s singles saw Emma Boyd (BC) claim gold over Baylee Van Steijn with an 18-12 victory. The bronze medal went to Cori Millard (ON) as she defeated Amy Spence (PEI) 18-8.

In the Under 25 division, it was a thrilling finish for both the men’s and women’s matches. Reigning champion, Carah Webster (BC), snuck past Jordan Kos (SK) for a 21-20 win on the women’s side, while Owen Kirby (ON), last year’s Under 18 champion, narrowly defeated local Manitoban Rob Law by a score of 21-18. In the bronze medal matches, Sydney Boyd (SK) defeated Jamie Scott (AB) 21-16 on the women’s side, while Braeden Campbell (NS) secured the bronze medal over Brandon Watson (SK) 21-13.  

With the conclusion of the Youth Championships, the 2018-19 Youth Development Squad has been finalized. The Youth Development Squad is comprised of the top four men and women for both the Under 18 and Under 25 divisions.
