National Bowls Day 2018: a Rolling Success

Ottawa, Ontario | June 7, 2018

June 2nd 2018 was Bowls Canada Boulingrin’s second annual National Bowls Day. Community bowls clubs from coast to coast took part in an exciting day of celebration and fun events.

Across the country there were many different initiatives and clubs’ own takes on Bowls Day. Clubs such as Ontario’s Cannington LBC and Alberta’s Lethbridge LBC promoted lawn bowls at local wellness expos and SportFest festivals.  Clubs like British Columbia’s Nanaimo LBC celebrated their 95th club anniversary on Bowls Day with a vintage 1920’s themed tournament.  Prescott LBC in Ontario had new members sign up on the spot during their fun-filled Open House afternoon.

BCB staff were excited to double their celebrations as they cheered on participants bowling in a Mixed Pairs tournament at the Elmdale LBC in the morning and participated in open house afternoon activities at the Almonte LBC.

There was no shortage in creative promotion initiatives.  Saskatchewan’s Nutana LBC created an original video that showcased the social and fun nature of bowls that you can watch here.  Ontario’s Heritage LBC’s online posts on local event boards such as “Stuff to Do with Youth Kids in Kitchener Waterloo” also paid off in spades as they hosted over 90 participants at their fun events and pig roast day.  Nova Scotia’s Dartmouth LBC invited local radio to broadcast from the club where they many community members of all ages take advantage of a free lessons afternoon.  Alberta’s Stanley Park LBC hosted local media to come down to the club to give bowls a try and tape a story for promotion on morning radio.  Many clubs and local bowlers connected online through social media such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to share their pleasure in Bowls Day activities.

With more than 100 clubs participating in National Bowls Day 2018, there are many more stories still to be shared.   To share your experiences with BCB and the bowls community, please send your pictures, videos, online links and testimonials to mnafe@bowlscanada.ca
