Smith and Wilson to compete at the Hong Kong International Bowls Classic
November 9th 2017 | Kowloon, Hong Kong
Alberta’s Greg Wilson and Quebec’s David-James Smith are headed to the 2017 Hong Kong International Bowls Classic this coming weekend. Canada is one of the thirteen countries invited to this world renowned competition, with 128 players participating in singles and pairs. The Hong Kong Classic will be played at three different venues: Kowloon Bowling Green Club, Club de Recreio and Kowloon Cricket Club. The competition kicks off November 11th with a two day singles event, followed by the pair’s competition until November 19th.
Canada’s representatives are more than prepared for this event: Wilson claimed pairs bronze at the 2017 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships (with Derek Dillon), and two bronze medals from the 2016 season in both the Outdoor and Indoor Singles Championships; Smith, who is on the Canadian Development Squad and recently won bronze at the 2017 Outdoor Singles Championship, will be making his first international appearance for Canada. Both athletes will compete in singles and pairs, with Wilson first up against B. Yim (Sky Oasis) and Smith against K.F. Chan (HEGSC) starting November 11th, then both competing against C. de R. on November 13th.
