Bowls Canada Announces the Departure of Bowls Development Manager

After nearly nine years of dedication, innovation, and passion for the sport, Bowls Canada Boulingrin (BCB) is bidding a heartfelt farewell to Bowls Development Manager, Jake Schuknecht. Jake has officially announced his resignation, with his last day set for Friday, May 2, 2025.

Since joining BCB in May 2016, Jake has been a driving force behind many key initiatives that have shaped the sport in Canada. From overhauling the national coaching programs to developing a national Learn-to-Bowl initiative, his impact has been felt at every level of the game. His work in competition restructuring, return-to-play protocols during the COVID-19 pandemic, and even the co-authorship of the Bowling Green Maintenance and Management Manual have left a lasting mark on the bowls community.

Beyond his professional achievements, Jake has also worn many hats—including that of commentator, fundraiser, and even an on-screen star in BCB’s Bowls Technical Excellence Series. He has travelled coast to coast, bringing his expertise and enthusiasm to championships, conferences, and events while building strong relationships across the country.

Reflecting on his time with BCB, Jake shared:

“It’s strange to look back and reflect over nine years with BCB. It seems like forever ago that I was stepping down from the national team to work in the office. I don’t think my younger self would have envisioned that I would play a hand in writing the updated Greens Manual, or that I’d become a Learning Facilitator to help overhaul the Club Coach program. The organization has changed a lot over the years and gave me the opportunity to work with some great people in a variety of different roles. Change is never easy, but I’m excited for what lies ahead while holding onto the lessons and friendships from my time here.”

While Jake’s departure marks the end of an era, his contributions will continue to shape Bowls Canada for years to come. The entire BCB family extends its deepest gratitude for his years of service and wishes him nothing but success in his next chapter.

Thank you, Jake, for everything you’ve done for bowls in Canada—you will be greatly missed!
