This international event is the premier Para lawn bowls competition between national lawn bowling organizations. This event is held every four years and is sanctioned by the International Bowls for the Disabled (IBD) organization and recognized by World Bowls.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2020 event was canceled. However, the 2024 IBD World Championship has been officially announced to take place in Johannesburg, South Africa from May 18th to May 31st, 2024. Three para athletes have been selected to represent Canada based on selection criteria and performance in the Para discipline at the 2023 Canadian Championships.
