2014 Canadian Championships Begin in Winnipeg

Winnipeg, Manitoba | August 18, 2014

Canadian ChampionshipsThe Canadian lawn bowls Championships kick off today in Winnipeg, Manitoba with Canada’s best lawn bowlers battling it out for the national title.  Competition will take place from Monday, August 18 to Saturday, August 23 between St. James Lawn Bowls Club and Norwood Lawn Bowls Club.

Competition will be fierce as the Championships are a flagship event, featuring events for both men and women in the Pairs, Triple and Fours disciplines.  Many top athletes will be in attendance, including 2014 World Championship Qualifier Winner Grant Wilkie, representing Saskatchewan in the men’s triples event.  In women’s action, Kelly McKerihen from Ontario and Jackie Foster from Nova Scotia will use lessons learned from the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to make the move from teammates to opponents in the fours competition.

There will be more than 250 athletes, coaches, managers and volunteers coming together to see which province will come out on top in each event.  Athletes from across Canada qualified for the Canadian Championships through a provincial playdown process.  These athletes will soon find out if their hard work and training will be enough to come out as the best in Canada.
