Federal Sport Investment Presents a Critical Opportunity for Bowls in Canada
Bowls Canada Boulingrin welcomes the Government of Canada’s announcement of a significant new investment in sport as part of its Spring Economic Update. We commend Prime Minister Mark Carney, Secretary of State for Sport Adam van Koeverden, and the federal government for recognizing the vital role sport plays in building stronger, healthier, and more connected communities.
This investment signals a renewed national commitment to sport, from grassroots participation to high performance, and highlights the importance of accessible, community-based opportunities for Canadians of all ages. It represents a pivotal opportunity to ensure that all sports – including those deeply rooted in communities – are positioned to grow, evolve, and contribute meaningfully to Canada’s sport system.
Bowls is uniquely positioned as a lifelong, inclusive sport that brings Canadians together across generations and backgrounds. With the right support, we can expand access in communities, reduce barriers to entry, and create more welcoming environments where Canadians can discover and enjoy the game.
Targeted investment in participation and national sport organizations would enable Bowls Canada Boulingrin and our provincial partners to enhance programming, modernize facilities, and strengthen sustainable pathways from first introduction to podium performance. It would also support continued alignment with safe sport principles, ensuring positive, inclusive experiences for all participants.
At a time when many community-based sports are facing rising costs and increasing demand for accessible programming, this federal commitment presents an important opportunity to ensure that sports like bowls can continue to serve their communities and reach new participants.
