New Faces Welcomed to Bowls Canada Boulingrin’s Board of Directors
Bowls Canada Boulingrin is pleased to announce the new Board of Directors for the next year:
Chair: Kathryn MacGregor
Treasurer: Dennis Verge
Secretary: Anne Mathewson
Director: Laura Seed
Director: Chris Stadnyk
Director: Derek McKie
Director: Phillip Francis
Director: Michel Larue
This skills-based Board features new faces, as well as several returning ones.
With the bylaw changes implemented in 2021, the membership of Bowls Canada, represented
by delegates of each Provincial Bowls Association, elects the directors to the Board and the
three officer positions are then elected on an annual basis by the Directors.
Kathryn MacGregor, Dennis Verge and Anne Mathewson were each elected to return to the
Officer positions they each held this past year. Rounding out the returning Directors are Laura
Seed and Chris Stadnyk. The return of these five directors will provide stability and business
continuity during a time where Canadian society and amateur sport is seeing tremendous
change and evolution.
New to the Board are Derek McKie, Phillip Francis and Michel Larue who bring fresh ideas and new perspective to the organization.
Derek McKie’s previous involvement with Bowls Canada as a member of the Development Committee ensures familiarity with the organization’s mission and operations. McKie will also bring an international perspective to the Board thanks to his past involvement with the British Virgin Islands Olympic Committee. His experience working with participants with disabilities will also be of value as Bowls Canada continues to evolve their para bowls governance and programming.
As current President for Ontario Lawn Bowls Association, Phillip Francis is intimately aware of the governance requirements of sport governing bodies and the challenges they are facing. His professional background in HR will also be an asset to this new board. In the last months of his OLBA term, Francis is looking forward to continuing to serve lawn bowls in Canada through this new role.
Many will recognize the name Michel Larue due to his extensive international playing career as a part of Team Canada. An urban planner by profession, Larue has worked as a leader within municipal government throughout his career. His understanding of facility development within this landscape will be a tremendous asset to the Board.
“I am pleased to welcome Derek, Phillip, and Michel to the Bowls Canada Board of Directors”,
said Chair Kathryn MacGregor. “Their skill sets complement the experience of the returning
Board members and with the launch of a new strategic plan imminent in January 2023, I am
confident that together we will continue to move the organization forward.”
